The XJ-S, renamed the XJS in 1991, is based on the XJ grand touring saloon and although a departure from the sporting look of the E-Type, it still had great success. The classic styling, criticized by some as "old fashioned" still has sleek lines and its larger size makes it very comfortable. Launched as the fastest production sedan of its time, it still had speed that could be respected. To this day, the XJS convertible top remains one of the most popular full-size luxury soft tops of all time. It was later replaced by the XK8.
