The Suzuki Vitara or Sidekick is a rebranding of the Chevrolet Tracker, which is itself a rebranding of the original Geo Tracker. This compact SUV was available in the United States from 1988 through 2004, when it was replaced by the Chevrolet Equinox. The Suzuki Vitara top options included a 4-door SUV, a 2-door SUV, and a 2-door soft top convertible.

The Suzuki Vitara soft top was smaller than the four-door version, almost a foot shorter in both length and width. Although this reduced the amount of cargo the Vitara could carry, it also helped improve its power/weight ratio compared to its larger brethren, who were often criticized for being underpowered. The Vitara came standard with a 1.6L 97 horsepower engine, with an optional 2.0L 127 horsepower engine available.

Suzuki has been manufacturing their small SUV the Suzuki Jimmy continuously since 1968. This popular line of Jeep-like vehicles (including the popular Suzuki Samurai soft top convertible) was originally sold only in Australia. But it proved so popular that Suzuki quickly began marketing them around the world.

Offering two Suzuki Samurai tops (hard top and a soft top convertible) is definitely a major component of the Samurai?s popularity. It remains an enthusiast?s car, both in North America and around the world. Although the Samurai stopped being sold in North America in 1994, it continues to post strong numbers globally, where it is used from the Indonesian tropics to the arid deserts of South Africa.
